COVID-19 Vaccinations for 1b Tier Begin
On Friday, January 29, Thayer County Health Services began to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the 1b tier. Frank Hartley, of Hebron, age 93, was very excited to receive his vaccine at Thayer County Health Services!
A reminder to our patients: You will be notified when we are able to start vaccinating your group. Appointments will be scheduled starting with the oldest age group first and so on due to the risk of severe illness from COVID-19 increasing with age. Due to limited vaccine quantities, Thayer County Health Services is only able to schedule 50 vaccine appointments per week, therefore, it may be several weeks before you are contacted. The situation is constantly changing and, in the week ahead, we hope our weekly allotment will increase so we can administer more than 50 doses per week. Thayer County Health Services patients aged 65 years and older will be contacted in the upcoming weeks when it is their turn.
Things to note prior to receiving a COVID -19 vaccine:
-If you are sick you should wait until you feel well again to receive the vaccine.
– If you have received another vaccine within two weeks prior to this one, you should wait to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
– If you have a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment with chemo or radiation you should consult your primary care provider on whether or not you should receive the vaccine.
– Please plan on at least 30 minutes for the vaccine process. This includes check-in, administration of the vaccine, and observation post-vaccination. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt to your appointment to allow for better access to your arm.
We are experiencing higher than normal call volumes, and we ask that you only call about the vaccine if you wish to discuss it with your provider. Please do not call the clinic or hospital to try and schedule, we will initiate the scheduling process. We will be calling eligible individuals based on the criteria received from Public Health Solutions and NEDHHS. For additional questions about the vaccine and vaccine phases, please call the NEDHHS COVID-19 Hotline at 833-998-2275.
